St. Patrick’s Day Recipe: Rice Krispies Treats

Use This Delicious Recipe To Celebrate The Holiday

Erin go bragh! The upcoming holiday is the perfect day to celebrate your Irish heritage. Even if you do not technically hail from Emerald Isles roots, remember- everyone is a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! So you can celebrate the holiday right, here is a quick and easy recipe for Rice Krispies treats colored to suit the day. To make them, you will need:

  • Cooking spray or butter
  • 1⁄4 cup of margarine
  • 1 10 oz. package of mini marshmallows
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1⁄2+ teaspoon of green food coloring
  • 6 cups of Rice Krispies
  • Chocolate coins wrapped in gold

Line a 13x9x2 baking pan with tinfoil. Finish preparing it by buttering it or lightly spraying it with cooking spray.

Warm a large pot on low heat. Melt the margarine in it and slowly add the marshmallows. Stir constantly as they melt.

Remove the pot from the head and add the vanilla extract and food coloring, stirring it in until smooth and evenly colored. If the mixture is not bright green, add another drop or two of food coloring.

Quickly stir the Rice Krispies into the marshmallow mixture, coating them evenly. Press the mix into the previously prepared baking pan using a buttered spatula. Let cool. Then, cut into bars or, for an especially Irish touch, use a shamrock cookie cutter. To garnish, top each treat with a candy coin.
