Dangers of Distracted Driving
Driving while distracted is one of the most dangerous situations that you can put yourself in on the road. While most people think that distracted driving is only an issue that teen drivers have to worry about it, people of all ages and driving abilities can get distracted behind the wheel. To help ensure that you stay safe while on the road, keep these 4 distracted driving avoidance tips in mind.
- Hide your phone – your phone is full of distractions. From calls and texts to email and app notifications, there is an endless stream of dings that your phone makes. Turn it on silent and put it out of reach while you are driving to help avoid being distracted.
- Avoid multi-tasking – before you head out on the road, make sure that you are done with everything you need to do, including eating or programming the GPS. Even if you think that you can multi-task while you are driving, you are probably not doing it as well as you think.
- Enlist the help of your passengers – while your passengers are just sitting in your car, ask them for help. They can send out a text for you, or change the radio station. The less you have to do, the more you can focus on the road ahead of you.
- Avoid serious discussions – having a serious discussion while in the car can lead to heated feelings, which will take your mind off the road. Try to avoid any serious subjects as much as possible when you are driving to ensure that your mind does not start wandering.
